President's welcome
Dear overseas friends,
"The best place in China is Xiamen, and
the best place in Xiamen is Xiamen University." so says a foreign teacher who
has travelled all over China, speaking from the bottom of his heart. On behalf
of Xiamen University, I would welcome you warmly. Let us work together,
regardless of any differences in races and languages, to foster the wonderful
creation that is human culture.
Xiamen University was founded in 1921,
by Mr. Tan Kah-Kee, the well-known, patriotic Overseas Chinese leader. Ever
since its foundation, the university motto of "Pursue excellence; strive for
perfection" has inspired generations of Xiamen University people to conquer
difficulties and strive hard for one glory after another. More than eighty years
of hard work has earned Xiamen University the honorific title of "Strength of
the South" and a distinguished reputation both at home and abroad.
Xiamen University warmly welcomes students from all over the world.
Currently, more than 1000 overseas students are undertaking regular studies in
the University. They both enjoy their lives and make great progress thanks to
the excellent academic atmosphere on this beautiful campus, where with its
powerful teaching staff and superb research facilities.
What is more,
the university is located in Xiamen, which has the reputation of the most
livable coastal city in China, where the students also feel completely
comfortable and of which they build unforgettable memories: the traditional
Minnan (South Fujian) culture, the friendly citizens, the combination of eastern
and western architectural styles, the fast growing economy, and the delightful
beaches. And within the city, Xiamen University is undoubtedly the brightest
pearl.
